Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, VVS Laxman and Yuzvendra Chahal were among those who Monday spoke out in support of pacer Mohammad Shami, who has been receiving derogatory and hateful comments on social media after India lost to Pakistan at the ICC T20 World Cup match on Sunday.
Sehwag took to social media and called the trolls ‘online mob.’ He wrote on Twitter, “The online attack on Mohammad Shami is shocking and we stand by him. He is a champion and Anyone who wears the India cap has India in their hearts far more than any online mob. With you Shami. Agle match mein dikado jalwa.”

Sachin Tendulkar also took to Twitter, saying, “I stand behind Shami & Team India.”
When we support #TeamIndia, we support every person who represents Team India. @MdShami11 is a committed, world-class bowler. He had an off day like any other sportsperson can have.
I stand behind Shami & Team India.

While VVS Laxman urged fans to support the pacer and added that he can’t be defined by one performance, cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle said those trolling Shami should stop watching cricket.
Mohammed Shami has been a stellar performer for India for eight years, playing a significant role in many a victory. He can’t be defined by one performance. My best wishes are always with him. I urge fans & followers of the game to support @MdShami11 and the Indian team.

Jo log Mohammad Shami ke baare mein ghatiya baaten kar rahe hain, unse meri ek hi vinanti hai. Aap cricket na dekhen. Aur aapki kami mehsoos bhi nahi hogi. #Shami #355WicketsforIndia.

Pakistan crushed India by 10 wickets for their first-ever victory against the archrival in a T20 World Cup game on Sunday. Mohammad Rizwan (79 not out) and captain Babar Azam (68 not out) struck superb unbeaten half centuries and eased Pakistan to 152-0 in 17.5 overs in Group 2 of the Super 12s.
Indian cricket fans lashed out at the team, singling out Shami with derogatory comments.
Team India needs to take the knee for Shami. Now.

Former cricketer Irfan Pathan also spoke up in support of Shami. “Even I was part of #IndvsPak battles on the field where we have lost but never been told to go to Pakistan!” he tweeted.
Even I was part of #IndvsPak battles on the field where we have lost but never been told to go to Pakistan! I’m talking about 🇮🇳 of few years back. THIS CRAP NEEDS TO STOP. #Shami
