Adivi Sesh-starrer Major is now streaming on Netflix. Earlier this week, Netflix shared a post announcing that the Mahesh Babu production venture will stream on the platform from July 3 onwards. “The untold story of a son. The untold story of a father. The untold story of a SOLDIER. Major is coming to Netflix on 3rd July in Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam! #MajorOnNetflix,” the tweet read.

Sashi Kiran Tikka directorial Major is based on the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who sacrificed his life fighting terrorists during the 2008 Mumbai attacks. The movie opened to mixed reviews on June 3.

Adivi Sesh in an interview with indianexpress.com called Major “an all Indian film.” He stated that the term pan-Indian has been “abused.”

“No. It is an all Indian film. I believe the word pan-India has been somewhat abused. It sounded good in the beginning as it felt like we are catering to Indians across the country. But then it started sounding a bit like an euphemism for a dubbed film. On the contrary I believe, in my heart, that a film like Uri: The Surgical Strike is a pan-India film because we loved it in Hyderabad, Kashmir, Mumbai and so on. At the end of the day, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan was born in Kerala and grew up in Bangalore. He was a captain in Hyderabad cantonment and a training officer in Haryana. He also fought in Kargil. And he saved hundreds in Mumbai. If that’s not all Indian, then I don’t know what is,” he said.

In his review, indianexpress.com’s Manoj Kumar R wrote, “Adivi Sesh gets most of it right. Major is not an authentic war movie. It’s very far from realism. Instead, Adivi, who has also written the movie, adds a liberal dose of familiar romanticism that’s typical of such movies made in India. The themes of this film are cliche. Director Sashi Kiran Tikka and editors Vinay Kumar Sirigineedi and Kodati Pavan Kalyan, however, weave the familiar themes into a non-linear narrative, which ebbs and flows.”

Bankrolled by Sony Pictures International Productions, GMB Entertainment Pvt Limited and A+S Movies, Major also stars Saiee M Manjrekar, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prakash Raj, Revathi, Murali Sharma and Anish Yohan Kuruvilla among others.

Festive offer

On the work front, Adivi Sesh has HIT 2 and G2 in the pipeline.
