Sobhita Dhulipala on Mughals’ depiction in Indian cinema: ‘Mughals are also our history. India constantly has…’

The actor emphasised how there are many stories in Indian history that deserve to be ‘celebrated’. She added, “During the Chola rule, Indonesia was also considered a part of ours, but now is a separate nation. Borders are porous and history has proved that stories that become immortal are stories that must be taken forward and celebrated and I think this is one such story.”

Many films recently have been questioned about how Indian history has been depicted, including Akshay Kumar-starrer Samrat Prithviraj. Akshay Kumar, while promoting the film, had said, “Unfortunately, our history textbooks only have 2-3 lines about Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan, but a lot has been mentioned about the invaders. There is hardly anything mentioned about our culture and our Maharajas. Nobody is there to write about it in our history books. I would like to appeal to the Education Minister to look into this matter and see if we can balance it. We should know about the Mughals but know about our kings also. They were great too.”

In Ponniyin Selvan: 1, Sobhita shares the screen with Aishwarya Rai and Trisha Krishnan. The film, based on Kalki’s popular works, has received a positive response from every sphere and has been writing new box office records.
