Former Gujarat CM Shankersinh Vaghela hospitalised after testing positive for COVID-19

Before being hospitalized, Vaghela’s team circulated a video in which the former Chief Minister said that he was fine, but was being hospitalized for proper treatment as a precaution as suggested by doctors.

After being diagnosed with Covid-19 on Saturday, former Gujarat chief minister Shankersinh Vaghela was admitted to Sterling Hospital in Ahmedabad for treatment on Sunday morning. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also called up Vaghela to enquire about his health.

Vaghela’s media associate Parthesh Patel said, “He (Vaghela) was home quarantined yesterday. Today, the doctor advised hospitalisation for better treatment. And accordingly, he has been admitted to hospital today. However, there is nothing to worry about his health otherwise. He has no comorbidities like diabetes and is physically fit.”

Before being hospitalised, Vaghela’s team circulated a video in which the former chief minister said that he was fine, but was being hospitalised for proper treatment as a precaution as suggested by doctors. He also said that the Prime Minister had a word with him about his health this morning.

“For the last four days, I was suffering from fever. Subsequently, I got the test done and found out that I am Covid-19 positive. I have been advised to get admitted as precautionary measure and hence got admitted in Sterling Hospital. Thank you everyone for your wishes and concern about my health (sic)”, said Vaghela on his Twitter account on Sunday.

Vaghela had recently quit Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) over disagreements with the party regarding the just concluded Rajya Sabha polls, and launched a front called the ‘Praja Shakti Morcha’,

Meanwhile, Babal Das Patel, executive chairman of Praja Shakti Morcha, has also tested positive for Covid-19. Patel had also recently resigned from the NCP in protest after Vaghela was removed from the post of Gujarat president of the party.

“Babal Das Patel has been admitted in Medilink Hospital in Ahmedabad for the last one week. He had got his Covid-19 test done four days ago which turned out to be positive. He is doing well,” said a representative of the office of Praja Shakti Morcha.
