Chennai News highlights: A day after the Tamil Nadu government denied permission to the RSS to hold a rally on October 2, the Madras High Court on Friday said the rally can be held on November 6. Last week, the high court had directed the state government to grant permission to the RSS to hold a rally on October 2. However, the government then approached the court citing intelligence reports from central agencies indicating potential law and order problems. Meanwhile, the RSSā€™s Tiruvallur joint secretary R Karthikeyan filed a contempt petition against officials and police for not granting permission for the rally despite the earlier court order.

The platform ticket price for eight stations in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai city will be increased in view of the festive season, the Southern Railway Thursday announced.Ā Currently, the platform tickets are being sold at Rs 10. It will now be increased to Rs 20 and this will be effective from October 1.

Tamil Nadu government denied theĀ Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) permission to hold route marchesĀ on October 2, citing demonstrations in the wake of a central government imposed ban on theĀ Popular Front of IndiaĀ (PFI) and protests by political parties against the RSS route march. The state governmentā€™s order comes even as the Madras High Court granted RSS permission to hold route marches in Tamil Nadu on October 2 and refused to hear petitions challenging it.
