Chennai News Highlights: State congress leaders stage protest against price hike, detained

As per the latest bulletin, Avalanche (Nilgiris district) recorded a maximum rainfall of 20 cm in the past 24 hours. It is followed by Chinnakalar (Coimbatore district) with 19 cm and Devala (Nilgiris district) 18 cm of rainfall.

Chennai, Tamil Nadu News Highlights: Scores of Congress workers were detained here on Friday after they tried to take out a procession towards Raj Bhavan, protesting against the Centre over the price rise and other issues.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu recorded 1,141 fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday taking the overall tally to 35,50,547.
The State continued to maintain the death toll at 38,033, as no fatalities were reported today as well.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Thursday took stock of the situation arising out of heavy rain in several districts of the State and ordered the district Collectors to not release water from dams without prior intimation to residents. Stressing the need to remain vigilant, he said the administration should not discharge a huge quantum of water from the reservoirs at night. As the districts on the embankment of Cauvery and Kollidam would be affected owing to the release of 2 lakh cusecs water from Mettur reservoir, the Chief Minister asked the monitoring officers to take up appropriate measures. Steps should be taken to keep ready earthmovers, tree-pruning machines, multi-departmental teams and rescue teams, he said.
