Robin scores first hat-trick of tournament as DAV-8 fly high

Robin Chhetri scored the first hattrick of the tournament as DAV School,at Sector 17 Football Stadium on Tuesday

Robin Chhetri scored the first hattrick of the tournament as DAV School,Sector 8,Chandigarh thrashed Tribune School,Sector 29,Chandigarh,3-0,in a lop-sided encounter of the Chandigarh junior boys football championship for Pt Harbans Lal Memorial Trophy played at Sector 17 Football Stadium on Tuesday.

After a goalless first half,the DAV-8 team slowly found their groove and dominated the match with their clean passing. Then Robin changed the course of the match with his stellar show. He scored his first goal of the match in the 36th minute as he foxed several defenders before finding the back of the net. He then scored another two quick goals- in the 38th and 40th minutes- to complete his hattrick.

In another match,Mount Carmel School,Sector 47,defeated Delhi Public School,Sector 40,Chandigarh,6-5 in a tie-breaker after the match ended at 1-1 at the end of the regulation time. DPS-40 opened the account through Haishir in the eighth minute of the match. Mount Carmel team grabbed the equaliser in the 30th minute. Then,in the tie-breaker,Mount Carmel players kept their cool and won the match.

Meanwhile,Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 22,Chandigarh,defeated Vivek High School,Sector 38,Chandigarh 2-0. Deepanshu put GMSSS-22 ahead with a neat strike in the tenth minute of the match. Ashu then doubled the lead in the 30th minute to steer the team to a comfortable win.

In the last match,St Kabir School,Sector 26,Chandigarh,beat St Xavier’s School,Sector 44,Chandigarh 1-0,in which Manan scored the lone goal of the match in the 35th minute.

CHANDIGARH: Led by fine balling from Gauravdeep Gill (4 for 10) and quickfire knock by Prabhjeet Singh (34 runs),Saupin’s School Sector 32,recorded a five-wicket win over St Joseph’s team-B in a match to enter the semi-finals of the ongoing Fourth St Joseph’s Champions Trophy. Batting first,St Joseph’s posted a total of 113 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Janvet Singh played well to score 42 runs for St Joseph’s while Himanshu chipped in with 32 runs. For Saupin’s,Gauravdeep bowled a superb line and length to grab four wickets. In reply,Saupin’s chased down the target in 19 overs. Prabhjit Singh played a useful innings of 34 runs to help his team romp home. Pranav also chipped in with 21 runs.

Minerva Academy win title

PANCHKULA: Rajesh Patha’s superb half-century (54) helped Miverva Academy win the all-India Survivor Cup as they defeated MG XI by 39 runs in the final played at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Sector 3. Earlier,MG XI won the toss and elected to field first. However,their decision backfired as Miverva Academy thrived on superb batting performance from Rajesh,Anupam Gambhir (37) and Kunal Mahajan (19) to post a challenging score of 138 for 6 in 20 overs. Harish and Atul Goyal bagged two wickets each for MG XI. In reply,while chasing the target,MG XI were restricted to 99 for 6 in 20 overs. Manish Srivastava bowled well to grab three wickets.
