India Monsoon News Updates, Weather News Update, Rain News Live Today, August 7, 2022: Cloudbursts struck at least two villages in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district, killing a 15-year-old boy and prompting evacuation of some houses, officials said Monday.Ā The Chamba District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) said Bhadoga and Kandhwara villages were hit by sudden heavy rains in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.Ā At Bhadoga, Vijay Kumar (15) died and two other people sustained injuries, the state disaster management department said. Meanwhile, The India Meteorological Department has issued a “red”Ā alert to Pune and parts of western Maharashtra including, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Satara.Ā Ā An active monsoon will cause extremely heavy rainfall and lead to squally winds off the eastern India coast during the next three days. The IMD has placed Odisha and Telangana on āredā alert.
In other news,Ā pre-empting an increase in the Yamuna water level amid rain, the Northeast Delhi district magistrate has asked Delhi Police to increase police deployment round-the-clock around flood-prone areas. Officials said that all districts have also prepared district-wise disaster management plans for evacuation and to prevent incidents like fire emergencies and flooding.
The Met department forecast heavy rainfall over the Gangetic West Bengal till Thursday owing to low pressure over northwest Bay of Bengal, which is likely to intensify into a depression. While the coastal districts are likely to receive heavy rains, the interior places in southern West Bengal are likely to get thunderstorms with lightning and gusty wind, the Met said.
A well-marked low pressure in northwest Bay of Bengal, which is likely to concentrate into a depression by Tuesday, is likely to bring in its wake heavy rain, with the intensity being higher in the coastal districts of the state till Thursday, the Met said. The weather officer said heavy rainfall is likely in South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, Purba Medinipur and Paschim Medinipur, during the period.
Gangetic West Bengal has suffered 46 per cent rainfall deficiency during this monsoon since June 1, according to Met department data. (PTI)
A woman was killed in Itanagar's Lobi-Panchali area on Monday after her house was swept away in a landslide triggered by a swollen stream amid incessant rains, police said. The woman, identified as Rina Gwala, was a daily wager from Assam. She lived in a makeshift house, which was swept away by the landslide around 4.30 am, they said.
Heavy rains have caused havoc in Arunachal Pradesh with the swollen Papu river in Naharlagun leaving a trail of devastation in the Down Press Colony, officials said. Ten temporary houses were totally damaged, while 11 cars and two-wheeler were washed away by the flood water, they said.
In the Tawang district near the China border, the rains have devastated several roads in Lumla subdivision, snapping connectivity. (PTI)
Two inter-ministerial teams of the Central government will on Wednesday and Thursday tour Alluri Sitarama Raju, Eluru, and B R Ambedkar Konaseema districts of Andhra Pradesh to assess the flood-related damage. The districts were recently hit by the flood in river Godavari.
The State government is yet to prepare a detailed estimate of the damage caused by the flood. “The Chief Minister's Office is drafting a report,” a senior official said on Monday. The flood peaked to a record 25.80 lakh cusecs and affected normal life. B R Ambedkar Konaseema, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Eluru, West Godavari and East Godavari districts were affected for over a fortnight last month. Over two lakh people had to be lodged in rehabilitation centres as their habitations were inundated. According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), seven people were killed in the flood in three districts. (PTI)
Low-lying areas were inundated with rivers flowing in spate as torrential rain pummeled southern Odisha on Monday due to a low-pressure area, which is set to concentrate into a depression. The well-marked weather system lies over the northwest Bay of Bengal off the coasts of Odisha and northern Andhra Pradesh, the Met office said.
It is expected to intensify into a depression during the next 24 hours and move northwestwards across Odisha and Chhattisgarh, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre said. The districts of Nabarangpur, Koraput, Kalahandi and Malkangiri, Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamal bore the brunt of heavy to very heavy rain under the influence of a low pressure and an active monsoon trough, which is passing over southern Odisha. The weather department has issued red and orange alerts for parts of Maharashtra's Vidarbha region warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next five days, an official said on Monday. The regional meteorological centre in Nagpur has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy showers in parts of Gadchiroli, Chandrapur and Gondia on Monday and Tuesday, the official said.
Similarly, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places in Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim and Yavatmal districts of Vidarbha with an orange alert from Monday to Wednesday, the official said. Heavy to very heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm and lightning may occur at one or two places in Nagpur, Bhandara, Akola, Buldhana, Washim, Amravati, Yavatmal and Wardha districts of Vidarbha in the next five days, he said. A gulmohar tree planted by Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray at Shivaji Park ground in central Mumbai fell due to heavy rains and gusty winds on Monday, a civic official said. After Thackeray's death in 2012, a memorial was built near the tree.
The wind speed has been high in the last couple of days and the tree fell in the early hours of the day on the opposite side of the memorial, the official said. Former Mumbai mayor and Shiv Sena leader Kishori Pednekar said that the tree had been planted by the Sena supremo and the party would like it to be replanted at the spot. (PTI)
As many rivers in Karnataka are in spate, the state government on Monday said it has taken several humanitarian measures including improved relief camps, and proper compensation to those who lost their near and dear ones, properties, livestock and crops in the floods. According to Karnataka Revenue Minister R Ashoka, 161 villages in 14 districts are badly hit by the heavy rains and floods affecting 21,727 people.
Ever since the onset of monsoon, 73 people lost their lives, which comprises 15 deaths due to lightning, five due to tree collapse, 19 due to house collapse, 24 swept away in rivers, nine due to landslide and one due to electrocution, the minister said during a press conference here. As many as 8,197 people were shifted to safety, Ashoka said adding, 75 relief camps have been opened where 7,386 people have taken shelter.
The minister said 666 houses have been completely damaged while 2,949 were severely damaged and 17,750 houses partially damaged. (PTI)
The southwest monsoon has become active over Maharashtra again after a gap of two weeks, this time bringing extremely heavy showers to south Konkan region, the India Meteorological Department said on Monday. The state's coastal districts, mainly Sindhudurg and parts of Ratnagiri, received more than 200 mm rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Monday, as per the IMD data.
Many villages and hamlets in Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri have become inaccessible because of the connecting roads getting inundated, according to locals. A number rivers in the two districts have swollen and the waters have entered agricultural fields and also affected houses, they said.
“Some tehsils in Sindhudurg district received more than 250 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours, including Lanja where 290 mm precipitation was recorded, the highest in the state," a MeT official said. (PTI)
Odisha and neighbouring West Bengal are likely to receive heavy rainfall over the next two to three days, due to a depression that is set to take shape over the Bay of Bengal, the Met office said.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture off the coast till Thursday morning, as squally weather with wind speed of 45-55 kmph and gusting up to 65 kmph is very likely over northwestern Bay of Bengal.
The weatherman issued an ‘orange warning' of heavy to very heavy rain in the districts of Khurda, Puri, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri and Koraput for Monday. (PTI)
The India Meteorological Department predicted rainfall over Delhi in June and July with more than 80 per cent accuracy and reports of multiple false warnings are not correct, its chief Mrutyunjay Mohapatra has said.
The IMD director general said the impact-based forecast is a recent phenomenon and it will improve with time to become 'more granular, specific and accurate' by 2025.
Impact-based forecasts provide information needed to act before severe weather events to minimise the socio-economic costs. It includes colour-coded alerts with risk levels and suggested actions. These are: green (no action needed), yellow (watch and stay updated), orange (be prepared) and red (take action). (PTI)
Odisha might receive today and tomorrow isolated extremely heavy rainfall according to The India Meteorological Department. Telangana, Coastal and Southern Karnataka and Chattisgarh are also forecast to receive isolated extremely heavy downpours.
Tamil Nadu recorded 269 mm of rainfall, which is 102 per cent higher than normal, from August 1 to August 6, according to the state’s Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management KKSSR Ramachandran.
Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry has forecast light to moderate rainfall for the next four days.
In a statement Sunday, Ramachandran said Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Tirupattur, and Krishnagiri recorded the maximum rainfall. He said that one person died in Vellore after a tree fall and close to 29 houses were damaged due to the rain. Read More.

An incident of cloud burst was reported at Gram Panchayat Kandhwara in district Chamba on Sunday night, ANI reported. The incident has reportedly damaged agricultural lands and one bridge. The Himachal Pradesh State Emergency Operation Centre said around five to six houses have been vacated & people were shifted to a safer place.
At least 14 cars were swept away while around 50 people ran for safety to higher places in a forest in Madhya Pradesh's Khargone district due to sudden rise of water in a river after rains, police said on Monday.
The people, including women and children, all from Indore district, were on Sunday evening enjoying a picnic near the Sukdi river in Katkoot forest under Balwada police station limits, Additional Superintendent of Police Jitendra Singh Pawar said.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast very light rainfall for Delhi on Monday and a few days of the week ahead.
Tuesday and Wednesday are likely to remain dry, while very light rainfall returns to the forecast on Thursday. There is no rain in the forecast for Friday and Saturday, though cloudy skies may persist.
The minimum temperature early on Monday was 25.1 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal. The maximum temperature on Monday is likely to settle at 33 degrees Celsius. Read more.
Two children in Karnataka's Ramanagara district died after a part of a wall of a cowshed collapsed on their house following heavy rains in the early hours of Sunday.
The deceased are Parbeen Sunak (4) and his cousin Ishika (3). Monisha and her daughter-in-law Meena have escaped with minor injuries.

A spell of rain for over two hours left several parts of the city waterlogged and led to traffic congestion in Gurgaon Sunday morning.
Traffic police officials said waterlogging was reported at Subhash Chowk, near the Huda City Centre Metro Station, Signature Tower, Manesar bus stand, Hanuman Chowk, Sector 4/5 Chowk, Krishna Chowk, Sector 21/22 road, near Wazirabad traffic signal, AIT Chowk, Kanhai Chowk, near Mayfield Garden Chowk, Artemis Chowk, South City 1, Iffco Chowk, and several stretches of National Highway 48. Parts of South Delhi, as well as Gurgaon, received heavy rain Sunday morning, with several key roads reporting waterlogging, even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted moderate rain across the Capital during the day.
The city did not see any rain between 8.30 am on Saturday and 8.30 am on Sunday. After that, Palam, Ayanagar, and Pusa Road witnessed a heavy downpour.
At Palam, 32 mm of rain was witnessed in the three hours between 8.30 am and 11.30 am. At Pusa Road, 21 mm of rainfall was seen and 20 mm was recorded in Ayanagar. Safdarjung (2.4 mm), Lodhi Road (1.2 mm), and Ridge (1.4 mm) saw only light rain in the same period. Read more.
