Lakhimpur Kheri violence: Victims’ families awaiting justice, says Tikait

“We have not forgotten the Lakhimpur Kheri case nor will allow the government to forget it. Five persons were killed in the incident. Their families are yet to get justice. Justice will be possible for them only when Union minister Ajay Mishra is dismissed from his position,” Tikait told The Indian Express.

Tikait said that their demand for Mishra’s sacking will also be raised during the proposed nationwide agitation of Samyukt Kisan Morcha on November 26. Tikait also extended to give Rs 2 lakh to each of the families of the four arrested farmers.

Meanwhile, the Congress attacked the government over the Lakhimpur Kheri incident and accused the ruling BJP of trying to protect the farmers. “One year has passed, but the martyred farmers of Lakhimpur Kheri did not get justice. The reason is same — BJP, as always, is protecting criminals,” Rahul Gandhi, who is currently undertaking the Bharat Jodo Yatra tweeted.

Gandhi also added that the farmers’ agitation was a big inspiration for the Congress when it decided to take out the Bharat Jodo Yatra. “This struggle will not end without ensuring justice to the farmers,” he added.
